Atap genting atap rumbia

Kali ni nak cerita pasal kerja lah pulak; rasanya belum pernah story hal kerja.

Yelah, duit dia... dia punya suka lah apa nak buat kan. Ni pun, tuan tanah dah bagi foto menunjukkan satu dinding batu (dry stone walling system) yang beliau nampak di Spain, dia nak macam tu kat rumahnya. Tergaru-garu kepala structural engineer kami....Tu belum masuk kisah puan besar lagi. Bila datang time, "I saw this wall tiles in Italy...", ataupun "I like this shower room I saw in .... "... dan "My friend in the States has this kitchen... ". Pernah dalam satu projek tu, di Perak, maam besar tukar bentuk swimming pool nya sampai 5, 6 kali. Tu belum masuk bab warna swimming pool tiles lagi tu, warna carpet, etc etc.

Tadi, dalam dok cari-cari suitable product untuk solid wood flooring with underfloor heating, terjumpa satu website; ditulisnya... projek-projek rumah persendirian yang mereka dah buat: antara lain > Bill & Hillary Clinton, Dona Karan, Rockefeller family, Harrison Ford dan Bill Gates. Ada cawangan di NY, Dublin, London, Amsterdam dan Moscow. Hah... atok pun apa lagi, terus talipon la, mintak hantar product info.

Ada a few yang amat menarik, jadi sembang2 and ambik brochure lah, macam biasa.

Jadinya borak2 la kat situ, and bertukar2 card, phone numbers etc etc. Syed N is the son of Datuk Syed Ahmad Jamal the famous visual artist.

Tiba rumah dah dekat jam 10mlm... penattttt. Tahun depan gi lagi.

Busy year

Earlier this afternoon, Kakak re-started her Saturday Stagecoach after had a term off and absent from many sessions the term before due to her 6-month involvement in The King & I: UK Tour 2005. She was very happy to be back with her friends (and made new ones too). The principal too, was glad to see her back in action and asked for her photos (to be put into the academy's magazine, Young Performer).

Since she last bowed on the stage with King Mongkut and Mrs Anna in Edinburgh, Kakak has been busy with many other things.

Image hosted by Photobucket.comAt the beginning of the summer holiday in July, just before we went to Spain, she had her dance school Annual Medal Test/Award Day of which she did three performances; two groups and one solo. Then, my parents were here and Mama helped by making Kakak’s costume for her solo piece.

Unlike the previous years where medal test run for two consecutive days, this year it was compacted into one Saturday. All of Kakak’s were programmedto be in the afternoon, and by the time we got there at about 1pm, the timing of the event had already slipped and the whole things were running late. Apparently, there was some technical problems earlier in the morning.

Nevertheless, everything went smoothly and it was about 8pm when we finally got home. Normally, we would wait to the end for the prize giving ceremony, but this time, as many others, we were so tired and it was already quite late in the day; many left as soon as they had performed.

A couple of weeks after that, during one of her technical development ballet classes, her principle handed her the trophy she was awarded that evening, ‘Outstanding Performance Award’; another piece to go into the glass cupboard in our dining room. Ms T did look/sound a bit disappointed that Kakak wasn't there to recieved it personally on the stage then. Last year Kakak received ‘Most Improved Award’ for her great effort in the by-invitation-only technical class.

During the summer holiday, her agencies sent her to a few auditions on various things, and she had a day photo shoot at Covent Garden for a young fashion designer's portfolio. Got a place in the coming Cinderella pantomime at Reading Hexagon from that tearful audition at the Town Hall. After that, had done three recording sessions with GMTV’s Saturday & Sunday early morning kids show Toonattik. And now… back into full swing of rehearsal for next month production of The Nutcracker 2005 (in conjunction with her ballet/dance school’s 20th anniversary)…. and her school new academic year just started last Wednesday.

A busy schedule ahead for Kakak [and not to forget: The Royal Academy of Dance – Grade 1 Ballet Exam in Jan ’06… on the last exam Kakak got distinction].

Architects Without Border Helps Rebuild 1,000 Buildings in Aceh

San Fransisco, Indonesia-Relief – Craig William, director of Architects Without Borders (AWB), said his organization will build or rebuild 1,000 building in Aceh, especially schools and orphanages. To finance the project, AWB has received financial support between $3 and $4 million from Steve Olson, a building developer from Southern California.

''Steve Olson from Southern California, who is a developer, has dedicated a sizable amount of money toward reconstruction activities with us….We anticipate the project will cost $3 or $4 million. Steve Olson writes the checks,'' said William in interview with San Fransisco Chronicle on Sunday.

Architects Without Borders, according to William, has our or five projects in Aceh. Since its arrival in Aceh in March, AWB has identified schools, orphanages, and related building as its focus of help.

So far, AWB has spent 25 percent of the committed budget. ''Twenty percent goes into the first phase, which is construction of a clinic, dining hall, kitchen and dorms for 280 orphans. We're designing houses to partner qualified adults with orphans,'' William said.

''The first phase will be done in three to four months. The whole thing will take three to four years. Ultimately we will build and rebuild 1,000 buildings,'' he said, adding that the buildings will have a blending of colonial influence as well as the vestiges of pre-colonial Javanese architecture, and new sustainable technologies.

[News tricked in; a number of families from Southern Thai has crossed the river at the border to Malaysia, escaping the latest military operation recently launched. Hopefully, our government will be reasonable enough to accept and house them humanly where they would have proper food and a place to rest. Indeed, they didn't just happily left their beloved villages and all the belogings; their very lives were at stake]
