Sayuri
...juz got back from the cinema; tengok show kul 11.35pm. nanti tulis.....-------------------------------------------------
OK, this is atok nye pendapat lah:
Filem ini telah jadi spoilt atas Hollywood commercial decision to have it in English. Atok berfirasat, omputih ni malas nak baca sub-title/translation.... walhal orang2 macam kita ni dah celik-celik didunia tengok tv yang penuh dengan sub-titles; tak heran. On top of that, the sound of Japanese ladies conversing is always a wonderful melody to my ears... it illustrates their unique culture and brings viewers closer to the reality. Cuba bayangkan kalau Amitab Banchan cakap Melayu... tak bunyi hebatlah (tak de la dengung-dengung dan echo yang mendayu-dayu tu). Jadi start-start cerita.... dah rosak; hilang habis its romantic and uniqueness.
Kemudian, filem ni disamping melakarkan dunia geisha yang penuh misteri, ianya berkisar tentang emosi cinta dan percintaan Chiyo/Sayuri dengan Tuan Chairman. Frankly, atok bukan nak tengok kisah cinta sangat (pasal dah jadi cliche dah kisah2 cinta ni, filem apa pun), tapi atok lebih nak tengok the intricate cultural elements that have been long fascinate me; from its architectural elements to the conduct of its people. Tapi kisah cinta pulak yang banyak dititikberatkan...okay, tek de masalah. Cuma ada sedikit atok kurang nak terima.
Oklah, budak pompuan 9 (ataupun 10 tahun by that time on the wooden bridge) terpikat dengan pakcik kacak yang dah berusia mungkin late 30's ataupun early 40's. Psycho-analysts would say that bcoz she was looking for a father figure; well... most probably. Tapi, bilamana Sayuri dah jadi geisha, or even when she was a maiko...err, masa tu dia dah berumur 18? or 21? gitu (lupa dah ni), maka Tuan Chairman dah pun late 40's or early 50's.... tapi dia tak pun tua-tua dalam filem tu, sama je.
Yelah, most of us indeed did fancy someone older during our childhood; atress/actor ke, cikgu kat sekolah ke, senior kat sekolah ke, or sesapa. Tapi things soon changed as we grew up and those idols soon vanished, to be replaced with a more up-to-date. Mungkinlah, dalam cerita ni, Sayuri terjatuh cinta dengan Tuan Chairman atas sebab kebaikan Tuan Chairman.... yet, I still don't buy that; too simplistic and too romantic. Surely, as the top geisha of Gion, mestilah terlalu ramai mamat-mamat handsome yang mencuba nasib, takkan la tak de sorang pun yang kacak remaja.... ishhhh.
Atok was expecting an amazing view of traditional Kyoto when Chiyo looked above the parapet... tapi frustrated, takde apa pun, sekadar nampak sedozen dua bumbung rumah disekeliling. Sepatutnya, from that eye level, the camera could pan out and reveal the great extend of the urban landscape, illustrating its density and intricate building typologies and urban pattern.
Make-up geisha yang putih melepak tu pun telah dicerahkan, jadi kurang real.
Mmmm... ada banyak lagi, tapi dah tak larat nak tulis la. In short, enjoyble tapi sedikit disappointed coz it could be a lot better; wondering apa hasil sebaliknya kalau Zhang Yimou ataupun Ang Lee yang direct, mesti hebat.
[i went to see ziyi.... not the story, hahahahaa]
