Tak boleh lukis...

Lama dah tak menulis; tak de cerita and tak de masa, dicampur dengan tak de ilham. Cuaca pun tetiba sejuk dengan tiupan angin sejuk timur laut. Semalam snowed pepagi lagi, sampai dah nak tengahari baru stopped, tapi tak lebat...berderai je.

Dunia pun semakin kacau bilau.... tak henti-henti.
Kisah kartun pun tak habis-habis di tanahair. Dua suratkhabar dah kena, ni pulak NST & RTM punya giliran. Frankly, now atok dah mula bosan dengan isu ni; dah jadi 'perang' sesama sendiri pulak. Siapa yang untung? Tentunya pihak lain....

Cakap pasal kartun ni... sejak kecik-kecik lagi, atok ni suka melukis. Tapi masa atok sekolah rendah dulu, nak lukis orang pun kena kata macam-macam.
"Mung lukih oghae, nati kiamak seksok dio maghi mitok nyawo, tok leh lukih oghea!"
["You can't draw human figures, otherwise in the hereafter, they will come to you and demand to be made alive!"]
... and I was terrified. I soon stopped drawing figures and moved into cartoons and objects. Then, it was all about Tempe Asuka from the Japanese superhero anime series of Blocker Corps Machine Blaster. Sesapa yang boleh lukis Tempe tu kira terrer lah [bukan terrorist though]. There was also this then, a futuristic tv series and comic, Space 1999.... kalau boleh lukis its Eagle Transporter tu, kira hebat lah jugak tu.

Atok ingat lagi, once I copied a 1 ringgit note, using a blue ball point pen. It took me all day and I was very proud of the result. I was probably 9 or 10 then. For decades I wanted to be a forger/counterfeiter coz to me every artist has his/her own style and trademark... and if one could copy and emulate that, it would be a tremendous feat.

One of Papa's cousins tu cikgu lukisan, and everytime gi visit his place, atok akan ambil the thick green book of Hikayat Hang Tuah. In it, he drew little sketches at the corner of pages, illustrating the stories; mostly orang dok bersilat [this was during the period (early 70's) when Papa was very active in silat and seeking other spritual/inner knowledge with his few close friends], and I was really amazed by those little doodles and started to copy them.

Atok initially learned to draw by tracing. In those days, manalah nak gi cari tracing paper. So, ambiklah minyak masak and sapu ke kertas; tak boleh banyak nanti rosak kertas... kena pandai buat ni. Then, jemur kertas tu kejap... baru boleh guna. Though at school, atok selalunya malas bila time period 'Lukisan'. Bukan apa, tak minat the one and only medium yang digunakan tu, watercolour. When I was at Standard 6, I was asked to enter the inter-school state drawing competition, and it was 'lukisan batik' theme. I had to do it in watercolour... duhhh. Sampai sekarang pun, atok amatlah gagal dalam watercolouring ni.... other medium okay.

And atok actually abandoned bab-bab drawing throughout my secondary school years for the same reason, albeit for a few weeks when atok was in the Badan Redaksi illustrating for my annual school magazine. It was only in '87 when atok was in KPP and made my weekly pilgrimage to the Central Market... my drawing passion re-emerged. Then, I started to draw potraits again..... and surprisingly no one ever told me that my figures would come back to haunt for their lives.

And I haven't stop drawing since.....
